Kosher (Jewish) and ... Kosher (Jewish) and Halal (Islamic) methods of slaughter come from ages of tradition where they animal was killed as quickly and humanely as possible. Of course? there are much more humane methods now (stunning) but they haven't changed or kept up with what is humane. There is no need to slaughter animals this way anymore, it's cruel, but their tradition is more important then the animal's wellfare.
